Shimota Mall
This was our first visit to Shimota, a town about 10 kilometers away.. but since the roads are so small the speed limits are only about 50 k/hr at the fastest it takes about 15 min to get there... which still isnt that bad, Misawa has a population of only 40,000 (the base has 10,000) so most people go to the bigger cities for shopping...
The cars in Japan are super funny, I thought this one was especially funny that van is probably half the size of a regular mini van.
This is the most intense cup of ramen I have ever seen. They love ramen here, there are whole isles in the grocery store dedicated just to ramen... they have ramen restraunts and all they serve is different types of ramen, up north they have squid ink ramen.. I have not tried it yet...
This is in the arcade at the mall... um does anybody else think this is creepy... yes that is face blood coming out of the mouth and on the claws of the pink teddy bear...
um... they sell these at the toy store... I guess when you dont have room for a dog... get a beetle!
I really dont think Japan is ready for me... It is so much fun being the only white people, little kids stare at you and it cracks me up, the other day when we were driving in Aomori, the namesake of the prefecture we live in (also the closest "big" city) some Japanese girls that looked like there were 15 were on the corner of the road our car was stopped and and they were staring at me so I smiled at them and looked away, a second later I glanced back and the were waving their little arms at me so hard and I waved back and they started clapping thier hands and jumping up and down and giggling, they love Americans here! its great!
They love anything with english one it and very rarely does it make any sense... I want to buy some shirts just because of how strange they are!
Some creepy Japanese manicans!
They have the biggest most gorgeous orchid plants in this country... they are amazing and not really that expensive!

OMG! Japan is awesome!!! I'm in awe of those orchid plants...and those are the funniest mannequins I've ever seen! I'm so excited you finally posted pictures! I can't wait to see more and I REALLY can't wait to visit!
BTW: I'm definitely stealing a few of your pictures for the class I'm teaching this summer! So keep posting retail pictures!! :)
I love the pictures! It looks like so much fun. I love the story of the japanese girls jumping up and down clapping. Also i think molly wants one of the teddy bears.
Lisa - I want you to bring me back the feelings that are stirred into that cup of noodles . . . I think if I felt that way everyday that I could likely conquer the world.
You and the hoola hoop are my favorite picture so far!
I think those Japanese girls would have fainted had you taken a picture of them.
Have you tried Sapporo Ichiban yet? I grew up on that ramen and think that it's the best ever! The pink teddy bears a bit creepy. And I can't believe you took Sebastian with you on a plane! That is crazy!
